Meals introduction

While travelling with ActiveTravel Myanmar, you'll experience the vast array of wonderful food available in the world. To give you the maximum flexibility in deciding where, what and with whom to eat, generally not all meals are included in the trip price. This also gives you more budgeting flexibility. As a rule our groups tend to eat together to enable you to taste a larger variety of dishes and enjoy each other's company. There's no obligation to do this though.

Important notes

ACCOMMODATION IN MYANMAR: As travel industry in Myanmar is starting to develop, you may find the accommodation standards to be lower than in other Asian countries. Since travelling to Burma has recently become more popular rapidly, pricing is also inflated due to demand, and at times our hotels can change as bookings are bumped by hotels charging a higher price to other travelers. Please be patient with any last minute hotel changes, and please be aware that often although the price of the accommodation is quite high due to demand, some hotel standards can be quite basic. ActiveTravel Myanmar guarantee to make all our efforts to get you the best hotel deals at date of your travel HOT AIR BALLOONING IN BAGAN: There is a company which operates hot air ballooning in Bagan. Such flights only take place around sunrise for about an hour and are entirely subject to suitable weather conditions, especially low wind conditions and good visibility. In the hotter times of the year, the number of passengers who can be carried within required safety parameters reduces considerably. It is not possible for us to make bookings for hot-air ballooning in advance of our arrival in Bagan. If any clients wish to make a booking at that time, we can then provide contact details for the ballooning company who can then advise if they have any vacancies for the following day. As at March 2013 the cost of such flights was about US$300.

Passports and Visas

It is each traveler's responsibility to have a passport valid for at least 6 months after the date of travel and a visa if required. Please check whether your nationality in Myanmar Visa exemption list, otherwise you do need to have your VISA done before going. Please check the information at our Myanmar Visa guide for specific.

Cell Phones & Calling Cards

You may wish to carry a cell phone while traveling. Check with your cell phone provider if your phone will work in the destination(s) you are visiting. Myanmar service is dominated by the GMS technology standard, while some of the world such as U.S uses the incompatible CDMA standard. We suggest that you should check carefully or you may incur high international roaming fees. However, the SIM card in Myanmar is not very popular and still quite expensive. You may need to check with your service providers for roaming fees when taking tours to Myanmar When dialing a number from one country to another, you should proceed as follows: dial your country's Exit Code + destination Country Code + Phone Number. Country Code of Myanmar is 95

Wireless Internet Access

Passengers traveling with WiFi enabled devices (such as a personal computer, smartphone, tablet, or digital audio player) may be able to connect to the internet via a wireless network access point (or hotspot). WiFi access in hotels and/or cruise lines often involves a fee which, in some cases, can be very expensive. Please ask your hotel receptionist to avoid unexpected charges.

Credit Card Usages and Currency

Myanmar’s national currency, the kyat (pronounced chat, and abbreviated K) is divided into the following banknotes: K1, K5, K10, K20, K50, K100, K200, K500 and K1000. Travelers should ensure they arrive in Myanmar with their entire travel budget in US dollars, as ATMs are still very hard to come by (although this may change) For credit/debit cards, surprised tourists in Yangon found themselves helpless when trying to use them. However, a couple of high-end hotels in Yangon and Mandalay are able to accept credit cards, and sometimes give cash back. This is done via a processing system linked outside the country, Singapore or Vietnam, and is at the mercy of internet connections

Trip Preparation

Generally talking, a little pre-planning can make your trip go a lot smoother. It is even much more correct for adventure travel, especially for an adventure to Myanmar - a country somehow, out of modern world. Several weeks before your Burma tour, make a list of what you will need to take with you. Make sure your personal documents (passports, visas, driver’s license) are in order and that you have enough prescription medications to last through the trip. We suggest that you make photocopies of passports, visas, personal ID and any other important travel documents and pack them separately from the originals. Pack a list of medications including dosage and generic names. If you lose the originals while traveling, you'll have copies for easier reporting and replacement. You may consider bringing a small supply of over the counter medications for headaches and/or anti-diarrhea pills. We recommend that you pack a portable alarm clock. Avoid placing valuables such as cameras in your checked luggage.
